For as long as I’ve been in ministry, one of my greatest joys has been spending time with students and helping them explore what it means to follow Jesus. The teenage years are full of big questions about identity, purpose, and faith, and I love creating spaces where young people can ask honest questions, build real friendships, and discover that faith in Jesus is real and life-giving.
Youth ministry has always been about relationships first. Games, retreats, campfires, and the occasional chaotic youth night often open the door to deeper conversations about life and faith. Some of the most meaningful moments happen in ordinary conversations — when students realize they’re seen, known, and not alone in their questions. I care deeply about creating spaces where students feel safe, valued, and encouraged as they figure out life and faith.
Sarah and I met at camp when we were 17, and I ended up marrying my summer camp romance in 2004 — easily one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. We have two great kids, Rupert and Olivia, who keep life fun — especially during family Mario Kart nights, which get way too competitive.
I studied Youth Work at Columbia Bible College and have been working with young people in ministry since 2009. I joined the Hammond Bay team in 2021, and getting to serve young people in my own neighbourhood has been a real gift.
My hope is that every young person who walks through our doors finds a place where they belong, where their faith can grow, and where they discover they are part of God’s bigger story.
Outside of church you’ll often find me playing disc golf somewhere around Nanaimo. I’m still convinced the next throw will finally be the perfect one — a sport that constantly reminds me that humility is a spiritual discipline. I also enjoy a “good” cup of coffee and lean a little towards nerdy things like Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, and a good sci-fi story.
If you ever want to talk about faith, life, or why the next disc golf throw is definitely going to be the perfect one, I’m always happy to chat.
